About the Programme

Beyond Campus is not only different because it is hybrid. The learning design is different too. Regular Creative Business gives you the classic campus route with more course choice and daily student life. Beyond Campus offers a more personal, future-focused route: safe AI tools, rotating teams, room to bring in your own fascinations, and class-wide industry artefacts that businesses can use as thought starters, innovation input, or R&D material. In many ways, the class works like a creative strategy agency: exploring trends, building tools, and making ideas useful for the world outside university.

Two fixed days a week you’re fully booked with 8+ hours of Labs, teamwork, and live sessions. No shifts, no distractions. The rest of the study hours are mandatory too, but you plan them yourself: deep work with your AI buddy, from anywhere in the world. Every 10 weeks we gather in Utrecht for a 3-day bootcamp. Yes, that’s mandatory too.

Do I get electives?

In regular Creative Business, Year 2 includes electives. In Beyond Campus, you don’t choose separate electives in the same way. Instead, the whole class works toward shared artefacts for industry, while students bring in their own fascinations—from fashion to gaming, activism to AI. Your personal lens shapes the collective outcome, much like in a real creative strategy agency or innovation team.

Bootcamps

Four times a year we meet in Utrecht for three days. Days are packed with projects and teamwork; evenings turn into dinners, hangouts, and late-night talks. Some may share an Airbnb or hostel: cooking together, laughing together, growing into a real community. Bootcamps are the warm, social heartbeat that balances your online weeks.

Live Labs

Two mornings per week you join a 3-hour Lab, immediately followed by teamwork. Expect 8+ hours of full focus those days. Fixed hours, fixed rhythm. No distractions, just learning and building with your team.

Teamwork

Collaboration in international and rotating teams is part of the Labs. It’s structured, online, and mandatory. You know your role, you show up, and you deliver. Just like in real jobs, your contribution matters. Your “declarability”—what you can prove you’ve done—depends on it.

Solo work

The rest of the week is for deep solo work. You dive into theory, explore ideas, and test them with your AI study buddy. The more curious and prepared you are alone, the more value you bring to your team.

Each block ends with a final assessment, based on your team projects and your own reflection. Assessments focus on what you add during Live Labs, what you create and how you grow, not what you can memorize. Expect presentations, campaigns, prototypes, reports, or strategy decks that mirror how the industry works. Graduation is through a tested innovation and TED-style talk.

Am I graded as a team?

Not exactly. Each block has two results: the shared class artefact gets a Pass or Fail, and you receive an individual grade. What matters is your visible contribution to the class artefact, your learning curve, and the knowledge and reflection you bring. Just like in real strategy work, collaboration matters, but so does clearly showing your own value and growth. You show that value during bootcamps, Live Labs, teamwork, and in your portfolio.

Attendance isn’t optional. You may miss one bootcamp per year—to be made up later—and only a very limited number of Labs. There are no exceptions. The fixed rhythm and presence rules make Beyond Campus doable alongside travel, jobs, or other passions.
